Luteal Phase Brownies

If you haven’t tried these brownies yet, what are you doing !! Best enjoyed during your luteal phase, right before you bleed, to help prepare your body and give you a nutrient boost. Did I mention they help you go to the toilet?

Magnesium | Iron | Complex Carbs | Fibre | ALA

Ingredients

  • 1 cup mashed sweet potato

  • ¾ cup almond meal

  • ¼ cup cacao powder

  • 2tbs ground flax seeds

  • ¼ cup tahini

  • ¼ cup maple syrup

  • 2 eggs

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • dark chocolate (amount = optional depending on preference )

  • ½ tsp cinnamon

  • ½ tsp baking soda

  • pinch of salt

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 170°C fan-forced.

  2. Whisk together the mashed sweet potato, tahini, maple syrup, eggs and vanilla until smooth.

  3. Mix in the almond meal, cacao, ground flaxseed, cinnamon, baking soda and salt.

  4. Fold through a generous handful of dark chocolate chips.

  5. Spread into a lined, small square baking tin.

  6. Bake for approximately 20–28 minutes, checking the centre as it cooks. A skewer should come out with moist crumbs, not completely wet batter.

  7. Let them cool completely before slicing or eat warm with a scoop of ice-cream!!

Why I love it

These brownies tick two important boxes during the luteal phase for me: nutrient dense + delicious sweet treat.

The star ingredients are:

  1. Sweet potato provides complex carbohydrates and vitamin B6, which supports normal nervous system function and energy metabolism.

  2. Almond meal provides magnesium, healthy fats and vitamin E to support normal muscle and nerve function and protect cells from oxidative stress.

  3. Tahini contains magnesium, calcium and healthy fats, which contribute to normal muscle and nervous system function.

  4. Ground flaxseeds provide fibre and plant-based omega-3 ALA fats to support digestive health and support oestrogen clearance

  5. Cacao powder, (not cocoa powder) contains magnesium and polyphenols, plus the rich chocolate flavour that can help satisfy chocolate cravings.
